Wrapping up the Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip in the 2022 summer window.

Chelsea target Gordon | Can Everton afford to let him go?

Chelsea are interested in signing Everton forward Anthony Gordon.

One source has told Sky Sports News they have tabled a £40m bid. Everton’s position during this window has been the player is not for sale.

Tottenham wanted to sign the 21-year-old in a package deal with Richarlison for a combined £80m earlier in the summer but Everton were not interested in selling him then.

Newcastle also made an approach but did not submit a formal bid.

Chelsea confident of striking De Jong deal

Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol:

“Barcelona have a big decision to make. Their league season starts on Saturday and they’ve spent over £120m on new signings who they’ve not been able to register.

“The Spanish league have very strict financial control rules in place. One thing Barcelona could do to solve some of their financial problems is to sell Frenkie de Jong.

“We’ve been talking all summer about how Manchester United have agreed a fee of around £72m to sign him, but Chelsea are also very keen.

“Crucially, Chelsea are ready to do a deal on the wage issue that De Jong has with Barcelona. He believes he’s owed £17m in deferred wages, while Barcelona don’t want to pay him that.

“They also want him to take a pay-cut moving forward so I think if Chelsea can sort out this issue, they can strike a deal to sign him.

“The player’s agent is in Barcelona for talks. It would be a blow for United to miss out on him but the player wants to ideally play in the Champions League – something Chelsea can offer this season.”

Chelsea ready to sign Barcelona duo De Jong and Aubameyang

Chelsea are ready to sign Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if Barcelona allow both players to leave this month.

Manchester United agreed a £72m fee to sign De Jong last month but he is owed £17m in deferred wages and will not agree to leave until he is paid. Barcelona want him to stay but only if he agrees to take a significant pay cut and accept a £6m settlement for his deferred wages.

Chelsea are willing to match United’s £72m offer and unlike United, they can offer De Jong Champions League football.

Aubameyang moved to Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal in January. He has three years left on his contract. Although Thomas Tuchel has been reluctant to talk about Aubameyang in public he is keen to work again with a player who scored 79 goals for him in two seasons at Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea preparing third Fofana bid

Image: Wesley Fofana celebrates after scoring for Leicester against Rennes

Chelsea are preparing a third bid for Wesley Fofana, though they have other central defensive targets they are considering should that approach fail.

Chelsea have already seen two offers for the 21-year-old rejected, with Sky Sports News told neither was close to Leicester City’s valuation of the player.

Leicester do not want to sell Fofana and are confident of keeping the man who signed an extended contract in March that runs for another five years. That resolve is likely to be tested by Chelsea later this week.

Despite the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, another central defender remains a priority for Thomas Tuchel, following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Approaches for Manchester City’s Nathan Ake and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde have so far failed.

Leicester’s reluctance to sell Fofana will only increase (as will their asking price) as the window progresses, with less time for that money to be re-invested in a defensive replacement.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the club have rejected two bids from Chelsea and he’s not aware of any new offer.

Rodgers added: “We’re not looking to sell. That’s the key point. He’s a top young defender and there are not many about at his age.

“Another year at Leicester would be great for his development. He’s just getting on with his work and training well.”

Sarr joins Monaco on loan

Chelsea defender Malang Sarr has joined Ligue 1 side Monaco on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old made 21 first-team appearances for the Blues last season across all competitions, eight of them coming in the Premier League, but has left for a second loan spell in search of regular first-team football.

But the German has been unable to replicate the goal-scoring form at Stamford Bridge, where he scored 23 goals in 89 appearances in all competitions.

Werner has re-joined RB Leipzig, where he scored 95 goals in 159 games in all competitions.

Mendy set to sign new three-year deal

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s representatives are in talks with the club over a new improved contract.

As it stands, there is a gap between what Chelsea are offering and what Mendy’s camp are after.

Mendy has three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi in talks over Chelsea exit

Callum Hudson-Odoi has told Chelsea he wants to leave in this transfer window to get regular first-team football.

Hudson-Odoi was not in the 20-man squad for Saturday’s win at Everton and his representatives have been given permission to negotiate with other clubs.

Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and two Premier League clubs have shown an interest in taking him on loan.

Hudson-Odoi, 21, has two years left on his contract. He came close to joining Dortmund on loan last summer, only for Chelsea to block the move on Deadline Day.

Tuchel confirms Alonso heading for Chelsea exit

Thomas Tuchelhas confirmed Marcos Alonso is close to leaving Chelsea and that he requested not to be in the squad to face Everton.

“That is the case,” he said in his press conference after the 1-0 win at Goodison Park on August 6.

“He tried to leave, and we agreed to his wish. It wouldn’t have made sense to put him on the pitch today, in this situation it was the right thing to do.”

Chelsea make dig at Brighton as Cucurella deal confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed an agreement for the transfer of left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton in a deal worth in excess of £60m.

The 24-year-old will become Chelsea’s fourth major signing of the summer.

Azpilicueta signs new two-year Chelsea deal

Image: Cesar Azpilicueta has won every major trophy for Chelsea during his 10 years with the club

Cesar Azpilicueta has committed his future to Chelsea by extending his Blues contract until 2024.

The Chelsea captain has added another two years to his west London stay, thwarting Barcelona’s long-running pursuit of the 32-year-old.

The Spain full-back joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2012 and has swept the board of major club trophies since, with the 2021 Champions League and 2022 Club World Cup completing the set.

The long-serving defender automatically triggered a one-year addition to his Chelsea deal at the back-end of last term, but has now committed to a more lasting extension to his Stamford Bridge tenure.

Inter midfielder Casadei on Tuchel wishlist

Chelsea want to sign Inter Milan’s talented young midfielder Cesare Casadei.

The west London club have proposed paying between £5m and £7m for the 19-year-old, who has not yet played in Serie A, Sky in Italy say.

However, they describe Casadei as the “absolute protagonist” of the Inter youth team’s Primavera Scudetto victory last season, and he is considered one of the most important talents in the Italy youth setup.

They are therefore not inclined to agree to such a fee to sell the U19 international.

Tuchel expects Broja to stay

Thomas Tuchel has played down talk that Armando Broja is set to leave Chelsea on loan this summer.

Broja excelled during a loan spell last season at Southampton but the indications are he will form part of Tuchel’s plans this term.

“When he arrived it was clear he is trying to impress and become a Chelsea player.”

Ake ‘to remain at Man City’ amid Chelsea interest

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake is reportedly to remain at the club this summer as Chelsea suffered another blow to their hopes of defensive reinforcements.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein claims City were never intending to sell the Netherlands international unless his valuation was met.

The player is said to be pleased to be remaining with the Premier League champions with his versatility deemed to be crucial to his status as an important member of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The Athletic say Chelsea’s interest was never substantiated by an offer that suited City.

The report also claims Chelsea will turn their attentions to PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe with the two clubs in talks.

Conor Gallagher has scored eight goals and earned a call-up to the senior England squad in his loan season at Crystal Palace.

Conor Gallagher is aiming to be a key player for Premier League side Chelsea after being assured of a place in manager Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

The midfielder, who played for Crystal Palace on loan last season, has yet to play a game for Chelsea, fanning speculation about the 22-year-old’s future.

“[Tuchel] said he wants me to be part of the squad and to prove myself in pre-season, so that’s the plan,” Gallagher told the BBC.

“It’s what I wanted to hear, it was a nice phone call that we had and it gave me a clear plan of pre-season and where I’m going to be. It was great to hear.”

Gallagher, who has earned four caps for England and made his debut against San Marino last year, was a pillar of Patrick Vieira’s Palace last season, scoring eight goals in 38 games to be named Player of the Season by the team’s supporters. Gallagher’s Chelsea contract runs to 2025.

“Everyone wants to play as much as they can, but I’m willing to work as hard as I can to be on the pitch as much as possible,” he said.

“There are world-class players in the squad and it’s obviously a tough team to get into but I feel like if that challenge is there, I think I’d be a bit silly not to take it.”
